The challenge

Disrupt the logistics industry

Model truck front

Even though the Logistics System looks clear on the surface, a closer look reveals an underlying structure of brain-teasing complexity. The manifold interactions between the stakeholders along the supply chain are characterised by impassable data silos and conflicting processes and standards. It is high time to take down the barriers.

Key focus areas

Daimler Fleetboard is looking for creative ideas to bring transparency to the supply chain while digitising the handovers amongst the stakeholders. Join us on our misssion. Invent next gen track and trace solutions as well as conditional actions based on time and quality of the delivery (Smart Contracts). Fusing IoT and Blockchain should be our method of choice.

Criteria

The winning team will be the one who takes best advantage of the provided resources. Furthermore we will evaluate if the solution is: Innovative, applicable, easy to adopt, well presented and simply awesome.

The prizes

Welcome to the jungle Berlin

The winning team will be offered an extended weekend trip to Berlin incl. flights and hotel: Come over and join us for a one-day workshop with our experts. Afterwards, we’ll invite you to a fancy dinner in one of Berlin’s nicest neighbourhoods. Let’s make sure you’ll get the best possible start into a Berlin style weekend.

IoT-challenge

What we will bring

The IoT challenge aims to provide extended insights to the processes of the Supply Chain (track & trace). For this, teams will get access to environmental and motion sensor data provided by a life-like miniature Mercedes-Benz Actros truck (1/14 scale).

The truck will be equipped with sensors to publish the sensor data to a local MQTT broker:

  • Temperature
  • Humidity
  • Barometer
  • 3-axis accelerometer
  • 3-axis magnetometer
  • 3-axis gyroscope
  • Light

We will drive the truck for 10 minutes each hour, between 09:00 and 22:00. (e.g. 10:00 - 10:10). The “Fleetboard RC Truck Area” is located in the “Lounge”. See you there!

Junction floor plan

Blockchain-challenge

The Blockchain Challenge aims to bring automation to the Supply Chain. For this, the teams are asked develop Smart Contract solutions based on data from the Supply Chain process. Using sensor data from our IoT challenge is a plus (not a must).

In this challenge, the teams might also consider a user-facing part in the form of a web or a mobile application prototype that interacts with the blockchain
